Socrates

Socrates was a classical Greek philosopher widely regarded as one of the founders of Western philosophy.Socrates believed that understanding virtue and the good life was essential. He famously said,

"The unexamined life is not worth living."

Rather than teaching in schools, he engaged ordinary citizens in public discussions, challenging them to think deeply and question their beliefs.
Socrates remains a symbol of the philosophical life and the courage to stand for truth.“Strong minds discuss ideas, average minds discuss events, weak minds discuss people.

"Great thinkers focus on big ideas rather than gossip or meaningless talk,"

Socrates taught through questions. He didn't give answers—he helped others think for themselves. His method is still used in education today

Socrates claimed that he was wise only because he recognized his ignorance. This humility opened the door to deeper learning.

He believed people do wrong out of ignorance, not evil. If you educate the mind and soul, the actions will follow.

At his trial, Socrates refused to lie or beg for his life. He chose death over abandoning his principles.

“To find yourself, think for yourself.”

   1) Truth becomes subjective
  2)Misinformation spreads easily

"Facts just don't matter               anymore only how loudly you   say them "

This cartoon is a sharp commentary on how misinformation, media manipulation, and political influence define the post-truth era — where truth is often shaped by those in power, not by facts.
The media outlet (Firstpost) is not portrayed as a neutral informer, but rather as an amplifier of misinformation — showing how in post-truth times, media may serve political agendas rather than truth.

1) Why was "post-truth" chosen as the word of the year in 2016?

"Post-truth" was chosen as the Oxford Dictionaries Word of the Year in 2016 because it captured a significant shift in the way people engage with facts and information—especially in political contexts.

2) How do you personally encounter post-truth in your daily digital interactions?

For example, in group chats on WhatsApp, people forward news or videos without checking their authenticity. On platforms like Instagram or YouTube, influencers sometimes present opinions as facts, particularly on political or health issues, swaying viewers who may not question the content critically.

Political environment where facts and objective truths are often disregarded or manipulated in favour of emotions, opinions and beliefs.
Emotional appeals often evoke strong emotional responses, such as fear, anger or patriotism, which can cloud critical.
Even social issues, such as climate change and public health can be influenced by post truth politics.

In order to prevent it one needs to be logical and analyze each and every message that they come across.Let your facts and figures rule the judgment rather than your emotions.
